Maria's is famous for its margarita's, which are excellent, but its food is good too. It is mostly New Mexican, but does have steaks, 'burgers, salads, etc. They have a list of over 100 different margaritas, including samplers, which is a good deal. All the ingredients are fresh—no margarita mixes here. The food is reliably good. The tortillas are fresh, the chile is flavorful and moderately hot by New Mexico standards. The food is New Mexican, not Mexican, which means the accent is on the chile. I usually order the enchilada plate ground beef and smothered in red chile, but the carne adovada and green chile stew are also very good. Most plates are accompanied by forgettable rice and beans. I order a side of "red" and splash it over the beans and rice. Makes them yummy! My wife prefers their green chile. My grown daughter likes their steaks as well. Since it is a couple of miles from downtown Santa Fe, it is mostly a locals restaurant and it is always busy. Get there early for lunch and make a reservation for dinner. I prefer to eat indoors as I prefer the ambiance. Service ranges from good to satisfactory.
